On April 18th, 1942 aircraft #7 of the famed Doolittle Raiders took off from the USS Hornet to bomb Tokyo. After dropping three conventional and one incendiary bomb on the target, the “Ruptured Duck” continued westward until the crew ditched along the coast of China. Their story was immortalized by the book and film “30 Seconds Over Tokyo”.
These prints were to be countersigned by the engineer/gunner Sgt David Thatcher, who unfortunately passed away the same week the painting was finished.
