The M60 Main Battle Tank was a mainstay of the American military for more than three decades. Developed during the cold war as a response to the Soviet T-54 the M60 featured a 105mm main gun. Steadily upgraded through the years, the M60A3 TTS version of the tank had a superb firing system with a better thermal imaging system than the early M1 Abrams. M60s performed well in combat. The M60A1 RISE Passive version of the tank featured explosive reactive armor and was used by the US Marine Corp during the Gulf War in 1991. The tank also saw combat in the Yom Kippur War and the Iran-Iraq war. The type has been retired from US service but it continues today in use with military forces around the world.
