The Tuskegee Airmen were dedicated, determined young men who enlisted to become America's first black military airmen. they came from every state in the country. Each one possessed a a strong personal desire to serve the US. Their exemplary combat performance, including the destruction of 260 enemy aircraft, earned them more than 650 medals and persuaded then-US President Harry S. Truman in 1948 to issue Executive Order 9951, desegregating the US military. During WWII, the Tuskegee Airmen were truly magnificent guardians over the skies of Europe.
